Despite the large list of team entries, only the following teams have posted results so far this season:
GIRLS VARSITY PREVIEW: Let’s take a look at how the team race would play out with current season best times of teams who have already raced this season. In this hypothetical meet, Our Lady of Lourdes finishes first with 40 points, and St. Brendan comes in a close second with 56. Ransom Everglades rounds off the top three with 78 points. However, it is worth noting that John A. Ferguson, last year’s girls varsity champions who edged out OLL by a mere four points, is not included in the hypothetical meet, as the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair will be their first meet of the season. Ferguson returns their top four finishers from last year’s meet. This girls varsity championship team race will certainly be one you won’t want to miss. On the individuals side, look out for freshman Natalie Varela of Gulliver Prep, who finished second last year behind senior Lauren Archer of Ransom Everglades. Varela finished last season with an impressive 18:40 for fourth place at the FHSAA 2A Cross Country State Finals. She opened the 2016 season with a win at The First Maverick Stampede, finishing just under 19 minutes (18:59.80). Varela was ranked second in 2A Girls individual rankings in the first FACA XC Poll. BOYS VARSITY PREVIEW: Now, let’s check out the hypothetical meet for the boys team race. The top two teams, Belen Jesuit and Coral Reef, met each other for the first time this season at last week’s Fleet Feet Invitational. Belen Jesuit ran a great team race, finishing second behind Satellite High School. In this hypothetical meet, Belen finishes with an extremely impressive 18 points with their top five coming in at 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6. Expect to see a lot of yellow Belen Jesuit jerseys out front, with one black Coral Reef jersey in the mix. The only athlete holding Belen Jesuit back from a perfect 1-5 finish is Coral Reef junior, Hunter Dobbs. For individuals, Belen Jesuit boys take six of the top seven places in the hypothetical meet. Make sure you do not miss Joshua Collins of Belen Jesuit. You will see him well out front, as he boasts a season best 46 second faster than the next projected finisher, Juan San Martin, teammate of Collins. Collins ran away with the Fleet Feet Invitational individual title last week in a time of 16:09, besting Satellite’s Egan Kattenberg by 11 seconds. Collins is ranked #75 in the DyeStat TFX nationwide rankings. Top 15 Hypothetical Meet Finishers:
